Alternative Flooring is launching a new carpet collection with Liberty Fabrics this autumn. Archival and classic Liberty prints have been expertly woven into rugs, runners and carpets. This is the first time that these iconic designs have been used on carpet. There are four designs in a total of ten colourways. Enchanting floral, bird, garden and paisley prints that combine detailed pattern and vibrant colour have been up-scaled and refashioned for floors.

A typical classic Liberty floral, created in the 1970s but emulating the wonderful small flower designs, which were so popular at Liberty in the 1930s, and a style the brand has become synonymous with. This beautiful floral has now been brought to life for the first time on a carpet.

Part of ‘The Secret Garden Collection’ inspired by the celebrated novel ‘The Secret Garden’ written by Frances Hodgson Burnett in 1911. The design was found in the back of a Liberty book of Paisleys originating from the Lancashire mills and re-worked to represent the rhyme ‘Mary, Mary quite contrary, how does your garden grow, with silver bells and cockle shells and Marigolds all in a row.’

An original, hand drawn Liberty Design Studio exclusive of William Morris’s famous design ‘Strawberry Thief’ created in 1883. Strawberry Thief was first printed by Liberty in 1979 for its Interiors Collection and features strawberry bushes and birds in tonal shades that translate beautifully as carpet.

A design reworked from a stunning hand painted original mid 19th century paisley shawl from the Liberty archive. It’s suitable for both modern and traditional interiors.The Jubilee Collection adorned with Oriental paisleys and original Morris prints was inspired by the bohemian clientele that made Liberty the most fashionable place to shop in the 1880s.
This new collection is part of Alternative Flooring‘s Quirky B collection, an award-winning range that features designs by leading interior and textile designers. Previous collaborations (all of which support British design and manufacturing) have been with leading UK designers Margo Selby, Ashley Hicks andBen Pentreath.
