By the time Cambridge firm LDa Architecture & Interiors was hired to update a classic Greek Revival house in Hingham, MA, the original structure had been added to many times since it was first built 180 years ago. The interior had become haphazard and confusing. The homeowners wanted to retain the structure's period character and charm, while creating a house with abundant natural light, an open floor plan, and decorative detailing in keeping with the period and quirks of the antique house. The architects reconfigured the rooms so they now flow into each other, but also retained moments of originality and character. Traditional elements and antiques are mixed with modern pieces and bright colors to create an ideal backdrop for an active young family.
