As they proved in their living room room at this year’s Kips Bay Showhouse, Alexandra Pappas and Tatyana Miron of Pappas Miron have a knack for infusing tradition with freshness and exuberant color. In an Upper East Side prewar apartment for a young family with two boys, the duo created vibrant, luxurious rooms that work for both grand occasions and everyday relaxation.

The living room is spacious enough to encompass two seating areas. On the more formal side, a sofa by DeAngelis is upholstered in a Holland & Sherry velvet, and the vintage chairs are covered in sheepskin by Edelman Leather; the coffee table is a custom design, and the rug is by Beauvais Carpets.

On the opposite side of the living room, designed for everyday family gatherings, the custom sectional is covered in a Manuel Canovas fabric, the vintage chair is upholstered in a Fortuny fabric, the linen-wrapped coffee table is by Matthews & Parker, and an inlaid hall table from Sutter Antiques is topped with a Christopher Spitzmiller lamp fitted with a custom shade made from a Claremont fabric.
