The entrance to the stylish home is marked by a set of custom solid mahogany doors with bronze inlay. In the foyer, black St. Laurent marble flooring provides a sleek contrast to the oversized plaster chandelier by Carole Gratale. An unexpected yet welcome spot for decoration is the stair handrail, which was custom designed by Beckstedt and is made of cast bronze and walnut wood. A vintage chaise by T.H. RobsJohn Gibbings and a Holly Hunt drinks table create an elegant vignette opposite the staircase.

In the living room, Beckstedt added traditional architectural elements like the fireplace mantel and decorative molding. The room has a rich variety of textures and a modern mix of furnishings that include two custom-designed suede barrel chairs; a B&B Italia sofa, which is upholstered in a silk velvet; and a silk and wool rug by Tai Ping. Light lavender tones are used throughout the space to warm up the light gray wall color.

An additional entry was added from the living room the adjacent sunroom, which was expanded to allow for a larger master suite above. Striped linen drapery frames the large windows that span three sides of the bright room. The large space has distinct seating areas with a curved, high-backed sofa at one end; a set of four Jean-Michel Frank club chairs at the other; and a custom-design daybed in the center. The room is united by a pair of vintage 1960’s French mottled resin pendants from John Salibello.

The husband’s study features high-gloss chocolate colored lacquer paneling and navy accents for a dark and masculine look that contrasts with the sunny and bright living spaces. The silk Holly Hunt rug and walnut file cabinet continue the dark palette while a vintage Murano glass chandelier balances the space. The side chair is Gerrit Thomas Rietveld’s Utrecht design from Cassina, and the arm chair and ottoman are vintage Danish.

The upper landing of the double-height foyer echoes elements of the first floor, specifically the window design, which matches the front door, and the high-gloss white matte lacquer cabinetry, which is floor-to-ceiling on both levels. A vintage stone coffee table; pair of Mies Van Der Rohe Barcelona chairs from Knoll; and Stark’s Ebb & Flow carpet create an inviting spot to sit.

The master sitting room is an elegant space for lounging with a custom-designed sofa and pair of Mattaliano club chairs. A glamorous pendant from Room hangs above a custom ivory leather coffee table. Separating the sitting space from the bedroom is bleached walnut millwork, which houses a fireplace, bar, and television.

In the expanded master bathroom, Beckstedt designed a contemporary walnut, leather, and limestone fireplace with polished nickel trim accents. The chandelier is a vintage Italian fixture from Las Venus, and the polished nickel tub is from Urban Archaeology.

Suede wall covering from Wolf Gordon and a bed from Lawson-Fenning covered in Rogers & Goffigon linen create a soft, textured look in the guest bedroom while mismatched nightstands from Promemoria (left) and Christian Liaigre (right) and a heavily distressed antique mirror add a layer of personality. The bright teal glazed lamp by Christopher Spitzmiller balances the small-scale artwork, which hangs above the bed.
