Charming light woods and reflective surfaces enhance the abundant natural light in the kitchen: “I envisioned warm wood tones instead of stark white cabinetry to relate back to the beautiful outdoor elements,” says Rootes. The countertop against the wall extends at a right angle to naturally separate the kitchen from the rest of the area; hanging pendant lights from City Lights and upholstered bar stools from Henredon give the countertops an extra touch of sophistication. For the peninsula cabinet fronts, pictured here, Rootes added detailing to build out the architecture of the space.

Architectural details are complemented by sleek neutrals and contemporary shapes. The swivel chairs from Lee Industries were reupholstered in a comfortable, textured fabric from Holland & Sherry, and a creamy Stark rug further enhances the textured elements in the space. Lillian August side tables symmetrically oppose each other on either side of the room.
