For a retiring executive, Cynthia Spence of Cynthia Spence Design created a serene, rustic environment for a new home located in Monte Sereno, a semi-rural hamlet at the base of the Santa Cruz Mountains that has attracted cultural figures like John Steinbeck, Neal Cassady, and Thomas Kinkade. Natural materials and rustic colors develop a connection between the interior design and the towering groves of redwoods that surround the property. Throughout the project, sky-high ceilings are balanced by warm accents and precise proportions, resulting in an immersive ambience that merges cozy, countryside, and urban inspirations. Through a careful assortment of furnishings and accessories, Spence created a dining room that achieves formality without frigidity. Paul Ferrante light fixtures hang over the Marcali dining table and chairs. The host chairs on either end of the table are upholstered in fabric from Rogers & Goffigon, and a printed Zak+Fox fabric covers the side chairs. The wallpaper behind the shelves is from Osborne & Little.
